Community kitchen and day care in Peru is up and running!
Share This:

The many single moms in this shanty town used to have to decide between leaving their children alone all day in there grass hut homes to work, or staying home and not earning a living.
Now they take turns watching each others children in the new day care you made possible. The moms can provide for their families while the kids learn in a safe, caring environment. Our partner charity in Peru, Tierra y Ser coordinated the project with local community leaders and also provided all of the educational materials for the day care. Bravo to Tierra y Ser for all the great work they do!
They also have a safe community kitchen where they can cook nutritious meals for one another.
They successfully applied for government food supplements and are now applying for salary for a pre-school teacher for the older kids in the day care.
For just $5,000 you have helped this community to help themselves!
You paid for the materials, but they decided on the plan for the building, and constructed it themselves using 60 community volunteers. The project makes it possible for the families in this community (60% single moms) to make a living and help themselves out of extreme poverty. Their children now get a head start in life, with education starting in the day care – rather than being left alone if their moms work.
Video about the project – this is only 3 minutes and is really worth watching!

I hope you enjoy these before an after pictures as much as we do: (you can see more in the photo gallery to the left of this post)

homes in the town - usually made of poles, grass, and tarps

The new kitchen and day care - proudly built by the community members!

children have a cheery environment to learn and play with tables and chairs

this also helps teach them a whole new way of life

toys to play with and a real floor - things we take for granted

an area for baby care

it doesn't take a lot for us to help an entire community

the kitchen - imagine the difference between having a safe place to cook and cooking in a grass hut - plus they have some food provided by the government now

The community thanks you - and WE THANK YOU for your generous support!! You are changing lives for the better in a long term way.
Our next project is to fund a well for a village in Kenya that cares for orphans who are HIV+. PLEASE help us make water for growing food possible for these children!
