Pompeii – lost village or dog village?

Italy!!!!!! Yeah! There are so many different things about Italy, or so many different places I should say. There are grassy fields, and crowded cities. Personally I like the grassy fields better.

The best thing about Italy in my opinion, had to be Pompeii. It was so nice there. It was a perfect day, and t there was a nice breeze. Just looking at their phenomenal building structure, it’s magical, it’s awe inspiring. There was so much to see, and not even half of the city was uncovered yet! The thing that made me a little sad was the plaster castings of peoples bodies. They weren’t as great as I thought they would be.  They were upsetting in an unnatural way, they put you on edge. I transferred all of this energy into becoming more like an animal…tehee. There were so many dogs there, all strays. In a way though, it was more like their home than anything else. They were all happy, and they all seemed to be in good health. It wasn’t like there was scat in the middle of the road. They all went in the woods.

I LOVE dogs. So, I was making friends with them left and right. It was kind of funny, I was finally the pack leader that I always wanted to be. It was great. The first dog I met, that I actually wanted to make friends with I named Wolf. She was a girl, and a German Shepherd mix. Although a lot of German Shepherd was in her. At first she was trotting along a bridge, and I saw her. I said “come here buddie!” and she literally came running. After a minute of me petting her, she started to go down steps to this graveyard place, I think. It was a long flight of steps though and they were all made out of logs until almost the very top.

So Wolf started going down the stairs, and I followed her. She went a little ways, and then looked back to make sure I was following her. After a while of this she broke out into a slow run. Knowing I couldn’t get to far away from the others, I started to slow down. She looked at me expectantly, and I turned around and started to run as fast as I could to the group. When I looked back, out of the corner of my eye, I saw Wolf break out into a crazed run. She was on my tail, and taking the steps two at a time to her three, I was no match. When I got back, I saw my family surrounding a little tiny doggie, that I named Rascal. He was a really nice dog, but wolf didn’t seem to think so. In a couple of minutes Wolf had harassed Rascal so much that there was a invisible circle around Wolf that Rascal would go nowhere near. Of course that being said Wolf never left our side. So wolf was next to me, and Rascal at the groups tail.

We were headed to the stadium next, and you had to go down a long stone path underground to get inside, Wolf trotted in as if it was where she lived all her life. Rascal went in tail between his legs. Since Wolf thought of me as her master, she never let me pet Rascal. It was a really cool stadium, and most of the seats were still there. There was a big wall and from that wall, the seats started to go to the top. I always wondered if anyone had ever fallen from a amphitheater like that, hmmm, only that time period will know.

So we walked through, and Wolf took off, I was like ‘WOLF, COME BACK!’ and jenny says, ‘if she loves you that much she’ll come back’. As we walked out there was Wolf, lying down on the ground, waiting. Once she saw us, she jumped up and was right at my side again. Well Jenny, guess who came crawling back :) ! So we started walking again, and little did everyone know, that I was drawing in dogs like light to a moth. It was crazy! Every couple minutes my pack got a little bigger! The next dog Alex named Thumper, he was a cutie pie. He had one blue eye and one brown eye. His coat was white, with a big brown blotch draped down his whole back. He was really eye catching, I kept seeing him out of the corner of my eye the whole time.

As we kept walking, the dogs just kept following us. Just to test whom they were following, I took off on a full tilt run. Wolf responded by giving a little bark, and taking off after me. Rascal picked up a pine cone and started off after her but was overrun by Thumper. When I slowed down they did. I was their leader, they were my followers. If they went in front I would give a sharp growl, and dart in front of them. Eventually they learned this rule, and actually listened when I growled, snapped or barked. It was really fun.

Eventually Thumper left, and we made it to the smaller stadium. In this stadium they actually rebuilt part of it and use it for concerts. The seats were really big and it was kinda scary going up and down them. This was when everyone got the true meaning of Wolf’s name. Her lean body got down low and quietly sped into the stadium. She was using the full extent of her pads, you couldn’t even hear her nails on the stone. She leaped down the seats that were at least a foot and a half to two feet tall, like they were only inches. Her movements were as smooth as an actual wolf. Her eyes were set on me, already at the bottom. She reached the last seat and jumped halfway two me ( the stadium wasn’t that big) and in seconds she was at me. I tapped my chest with my fists and she jumped like she was trained already! I was expecting her to at least stop and sit asking to be pet. It was great, and I barely stopped myself from falling. I didn’t care she was the best dog.

When we got out and started off, there in the distance was the next dog. It lasted a couple seconds, and I could have stopped it, but I didn’t see him. There was Rascal, who had almost become excepted, but then came Jake another plumper leaner German Shepherd. Wolf and him ganged up on Rascal who was out once the first clip of fangs touched his fur. He left yelping, and I gave Wolf a menacing glare. She knew she was in trouble. She slunk to my sided and I growled.

Jake was a really funny dog his ears were at just the right angle that he looked ridiculous. He always had his tongue lolling out, and his eyes were always bright. So our pack had gained a member and then lost one. Then came who Cheeto, who was just there just because Wolf wanted him there. After a while of Wolf bullying Cheeto, I called her and Cheeto bolted. That was the end of him. After a while of walking, we found a dog that that apparently looked just like my mom’s childhood dog named Coco thus the dogs name: Coco. So we had Coco, Wolf, and Jake. Those were the dogs who stayed with us till the end. My favorite was Wolf who was at my side the whole time. In the beginning everyone except me hated Wolf. Although just as Rascal was excepted by Wolf the others had learned to except Wolf. She really truly was a good dog, and if I ever go back there the first thing I’ll do is search high and low for her, and if I do find her, I’ll go to the adoption center immediately.

Well after all this, that is my story of Pompeii, not too much about the History, but much more about what I did there. I have to say, Pompeii is definitely my number one spot in Italy. If you’re an animal lover, like me, you’ll love it even more.

PS: If you ARE and animal love, don’t even THINK about adopting Wolf, SHE’S MINE!!

    Bella,
Great store. Pompeii must be a lot different from when grandma Ollie and I were there
in the 70’s. No dog’s then. Thanks for remembering Coco. She was a very Smart Dog who liked to play “You can not touch me, as she would run toward you and then dart left or right, circle around really fast and take another run toward you”
Glad you are having a great time and great experience.
    Love
