The Eiffel Tower was not only amazing to see, but there are some pretty interesting stories and trivia surrounding this monument that has had over 2 billion visitors. A two hour wait was rewarded with a trip into dark tunnels that were quarries in the Middle Ages, but the site of several million skeletons, which were transferred to the Catacombs at the end of the 18th century because overcrowded cemeteries were becoming a threat to human health, made most of us wish we were still outside in line.

Budget travel in Paris is near impossible, but you can really cut the cost by eating plenty of baguettes and staying at a cozy little hostel with free breakfast. We did splurge on one french dinner and had a wonderful time – especially the kids who got chocolate cake covered in gold!

The Louvre is one of the greatest museums in the world, but on this trip it came up against tired kids and a serious distraction right outside its entrance…an Apple Store of all things. See inside one of Paris’ most famous shops – Shakespeare and Company – which has been a hang out spot for the likes of Ernest Hemingway, Ezra Pound, and F. Scott Fitzgerald, and still offers a place for young writers to live and work. Plus a stop at the cafe next store with great views of Notre Dame across the Seine.

Around every corner you find a new delight for the eyes in the beautiful architecture or in a world famous institution like the Louvre or the Musee d’Orsay.
