Paris – The Louvre
Share This:
The Louvre is one of the greatest museums in the world, but on this trip it came up against tired kids and a serious distraction right outside its entrance…an Apple Store of all things. The kids still went on the hunt for what interested them most – see Bella’s photos from her exploration of this treasure and search for Wally at the Louvre…
Our trip to the Louvre – seeing some of the most amazing works of human history
The Louvre is an awesome experience – it’s filled with amazing treasures. I am awed that I can stand in front of something like a stone inscribed over 3,000 years ago with the ancient law code of Hammurabi, the Winged Victory, and sculptures of the Greek gods carved hundreds of years before the birth of Christ.
It was not that long ago that an average person like me had no access to precious pieces from the past or priceless artwork done by some of the most talented artists in history. But now they are all there for us to enjoy. Whether you travel to Paris and see the Louvre or visit a museum near you.
On the other hand:
Three strikes against the best Louvre visit for the kids:
1) they had been to many museums in three countries by the time we visited the Louvre
2) they were tired from the hundred of steps we had been climbing in Paris – to the top of Notre Dame and the Eiffel Tower, to the depths of the Catacombs and back up, up the 102 steps to our room and back down several times a day
plus many hours of walking around the city and waiting in multi-hour lines
3) they put an Apple Store just outside the museum entrance! What could be more tempting to kids who have been taken mostly away from their electronic worlds an into the world of travel and mostly sub-standard internet – brand new Macs and great internet
The kids did enjoy exploring the Louvre – they just did it at top speed, grabbing the English map, hunting down the most famous and awesome of the works, and checking them off their mental lists at record speed. When we met back at the allotted time, I did here some talk from Alex and Meagan about an Apple Store visit…probably they were just doing a little internet research on some pieces that interested them
The photo gallery shows some pieces that interested Bella on our venture through the Louvre, as well as some shots from the amazingly beautiful courtyard – which we were fortunate enough to visit on a sunny day with blue skies overhead. Don’t forget to search for Wally!
